YouniqMail [0.9.5] - 2026-10-03 ✨ New Features Template variables while you type: Typing {{ in the template editor opens a list of variables right at the cursor; keep typing to filter, pick one with the arrow keys and Enter. In the compose window the same list, and the new "Insert variable" button in the formatting toolbar, insert the value itself, such as the recipient's first name, the subject or today's date, and show greyed out what cannot be filled yet. Template variables are a Pro feature. Without Pro, a template that adds new variables cannot be saved and such templates are skipped on import, while existing templates stay editable; a template with variables can still be inserted, the variable dialog then offers "Insert without variables" so that no raw placeholder ends up in an email. Confirmation before opening suspicious links: A link that the link preview marks red now asks before it opens, names its real destination and what looks suspicious. This applies to a click, a middle click and "Open Link" in the context menu. The red link preview now also shows its warning in your language instead of always in English. 🔧 Improvements Inserting template variables: "Insert variable" now places the variable at the cursor, replaces selected text and works in the HTML and Markdown views too. Before, it always added the variable in a new line at the end. Date variables follow the app language instead of the US format, and a variable with formatting inside its braces is still recognised. The variable overview in the template settings now also lists the email variables (subject, original date), the "Save" button there is translated, and pressing Escape in the variable list no longer closes the settings window. Performance improvements: The app is faster in many places, most noticeably with large mailboxes: Startup: The main window appears noticeably sooner. Unread count on the app icon: Updating the number froze the app for up to half a second in large mailboxes. It now updates without any noticeable delay. Email lists: "Snoozed" and "Flagged" open much faster, sorting a list with "Largest first" or "Smallest first" is also faster and scrolling far down a large folder loads the next emails much faster. Email/Mailbox Sync: After new emails arrive, reactions are added to their conversations without a noticeable pause, and conversations are updated much faster. New emails: A reply that arrives while YouniqMail is open no longer briefly freezes the app in large mailboxes. Follow-ups: Checking whether your tracked emails got an answer no longer slows the app down. Read receipts: Sent folders no longer slow the app down while it checks which of your emails were read. Folder counters: The counters in the sidebar are recalculated much faster Dashboard: The "Recent notes" widget loads faster. Combined views: When you select all emails in "All Inboxes" or another combined view, the number of emails is counted much faster. Account and folder lists, for example on the dashboard, in the "New folder" dialog and in Settings, load faster. Contacts: After a sync, the email counts of all contacts are updated in a single step instead of one contact at a time. Contacts: Looking up contacts by email address, for example for the sender pictures in the email list and during the contact sync, no longer slows the app down when you have many contacts. Search: Search results and their number appear much faster in large mailboxes. Search bar: Searching from the search bar no longer freezes the app while the results load. Search index: A search index that grew large from many deleted or moved emails is cleaned up once at startup. Searches get faster and the database takes up less disk space. Startup: The database check that ran in the background after every start now runs once a week, and always after an update. Starting YouniqMail uses noticeably less processor time. After the update, the app prepares its database once at startup. With a large mailbox this takes a few seconds and shows a progress window. All tab of the search bar: The best matching contacts and files now appear at the top, above the emails. A click on their heading opens the full list in its tab. Emails in the search bar: An email found by text now shows its conversation size, tags, pin, note and follow-up like in the email list, with an excerpt from the email itself instead of from quoted replies. The results load faster. Find contacts by email address: Typing part of an address, a full address or a domain in the search bar now finds the matching contacts, including their other addresses. Search ranking: Newer emails and contacts now rank higher smoothly instead of in steps of 110 days. Broad searches list the newest emails first. Searches limited to a folder or an account, subject searches and saved searches now rank the same way instead of by the text match alone. Search with very large emails: An email of several megabytes among the results no longer stalls the app while the excerpts under the results are built. Master password locks the whole app: While YouniqMail is locked, its other windows, such as an email you started, an open conversation or the settings, now disappear and come back after unlocking with everything you wrote. The menu, keyboard shortcuts and email links no longer open windows past the lock; a clicked email link opens once you unlock. Notifications show only "New email", without sender, subject, text or buttons, and the buttons of older notifications do nothing; a reply typed into one is not sent but opens as a reply to check after unlocking. Auto-lock now counts any use of your computer, also in other apps, and also locks YouniqMail when you lock your computer or it goes to sleep. 🐛 Bug Fixes Blocking a contact from the email: Blocking a sender by clicking their name, or under "Details", only took full effect after a restart. Until then their new emails still arrived in the inbox, their existing emails got no block icon, and the card kept offering "Block contact" instead of "Unblock contact". A block now takes effect at once, also when it is set by editing a contact, and deleting a blocked contact lifts it right away. "Block sender" in the phishing warning did nothing. It now blocks the sender's real address and confirms with a message. Unblocking a contact: Emails that one of your block rules still matches now keep their block icon. Unblocking no longer slows the app down with a large mailbox. Blocked Contacts settings: The explanation under the rule form now describes every match type, including that a domain rule does not cover its subdomains. An address of a blocked contact shows "Work" or "Private" instead of a raw text key, and the "Move when" choice no longer sticks out of its box in a narrow window. Block rules with "_" or "%": A rule such as "Contains no_reply" now marks your existing emails exactly like new ones. Before, the two characters acted as wildcards for the emails you already had. Moving the existing emails of a blocked sender: With "Move when" set to also move existing emails, every block now moves all emails of that sender from all server folders to Junk or Trash, whether you block by clicking the sender's name, under "Details", in the phishing warning, by right-click or with a rule in Settings. Before, only blocking by right-click moved anything, and only the selected emails. Junk, Trash, Sent, Drafts and local folders stay untouched. A new rule tells you first how many emails it will move, and a large move shows its progress and can be cancelled. New emails right after a deletion: When emails were deleted or moved out of a folder elsewhere (on your phone, in the web mail, or by blocking a sender), the same number of new emails arriving next were not shown until another email came in or the next full sync ran. They now appear at once. Templates with variables in the compose window and the quick reply: The "Replace variables" dialog could not open there. It works again, and the subject and the original email's date now fill in automatically. A reply that only has the recipient's address takes the name from the email you answer. Your name and the recipient's name in template variables: {{sender.name}} never filled in by itself in the compose window, and in a new email the recipient's first name, last name and full name stayed empty even for someone picked from your contacts. Your name now comes from the address you send from, also with an alias, and a recipient from your contacts fills in their name, in the "Replace variables" dialog as well as in the variable list. Snippet keywords in the compose window: Typing /keyword and Tab in the message moved the cursor to the signature instead of inserting the snippet. Tab now inserts the snippet when a keyword stands before the cursor, also after a line break or an image. CalDAV calendar: The setting "Automatically add accepted invitations to default calendar" had no effect, and the "Add to calendar" rule action ignored the invitation and stored a one hour entry at the time of the email. Accepting or answering Maybe now adds the real event with its time, place and attendees to your default calendar, declining removes it again, and the rule action stores the invitation itself. An updated invitation replaces the entry instead of adding a second one. If you are offline or the calendar server does not answer, the change is kept and made later, even after a restart, independent of when the reply leaves the outbox; only your last answer reaches the calendar. The CalDAV settings show what is still waiting, with "Try again now" and "Discard", and a notice tells you if the server refuses a change or does not accept it within a week. Webhooks: The {{rule_name}} placeholder stayed empty when a rule sent the webhook. It now holds the name of the rule. "Database locked" dialog: On Windows the button to find leftover YouniqMail processes did nothing. It now opens the Task Manager, the dialog names the right tool on each system, and Linux no longer shows a button without function. Flags tile on the dashboard: The color names appeared in English, and colors switched off under Settings → Mails → General still showed. The tile now uses your language and only lists the colors you use. Disconnecting Asana and Notion: "Disconnect" only removed the sign-in from YouniqMail, the access stayed valid at the service, and without Pro the sign-in was not even removed. YouniqMail now forgets the sign-in in every case and revokes the access at Asana and Notion. If that fails, for example without an internet connection, a notice asks you to remove YouniqMail in the service's account settings. Master password pause: After seven wrong master passwords YouniqMail refuses further attempts for 30 seconds, the right password included, but the lock screen only said "Incorrect password" and claimed "Too many failed attempts" after three. It now counts the pause down with the field disabled and shows the attempts left shortly before. Changing or removing the master password in the settings counts towards the same pause, and its messages are translated and appear once instead of twice. Quitting and restarting YouniqMail no longer resets the count. Subjects in the log file: With automation rules switched on, the subject of every new email was written to the log file, also without debug logging. The log no longer contains subjects, so it is safer to share with support. Replying between your own accounts: Replying to an email that one of your other accounts had sent picked that other account as the sender and left To empty, because the app took the email for one it had sent itself. The reply now goes back to the sending account, from the account that received the email. Archiving in Gmail: Archiving an email in a Gmail account failed with "could not be archived", whether by button, swipe, keyboard shortcut, "Send & archive", an automation rule or "select all", because Gmail has no archive folder. YouniqMail now archives like Gmail does: the email leaves the inbox and stays in "All Mail", its labels and star untouched, and Undo brings it back. This also works offline once the account has synced. A folder you assigned to the Archive role under Settings → Email Accounts → Folder Mapping still takes precedence. Changing a Gmail app password: Gmail accounts added with an app password, had no "Change IMAP/SMTP Settings" button, so a new app password meant removing and adding the account again. The button now appears for every account that signs in with a password, Gmail included. Snippets in Polish, Czech, Turkish and Hungarian: The snippets button in the compose window carried the same name as the templates button, and in Polish and Czech the snippet settings spoke of templates throughout. Both now say snippets. Restoring a full backup on a new computer: The backup could not be restored on another computer when its database was encrypted, which is the default, and the import ended with "Database reload failed". YouniqMail now asks for the recovery key of the old computer and restores the backup with it. The passwords of the accounts cannot be carried over between computers and have to be entered again, the app says so after the restore. When a restore fails, the previous settings and credentials now come back together with the previous data. Recovery key in the setup assistant: Clicking the last button of the setup assistant twice could encrypt the database with a different key than the recovery key shown before, so the saved recovery key did not open the database. The setup now runs once. If you set up YouniqMail with encryption before this version, show the recovery key again under Settings → Security → Encrypt Storage and save that one. Saving a search: The "Save search" button in the search field did not appear for searches made there, so no new saved search could be created. It now shows as soon as results are on screen and saves the search you see. Repeating a recent search: Picking a search from the suggestions under the search field dropped its read state, flag, pin, PDF or image, folder and account filters, and could keep filters from the search before. It now runs exactly as it was made. Tabs and sorting in combined views show all emails: In "All Inboxes" and the other combined views, choosing the "Unread" or "Has attachments" tab or another sort order only rearranged the emails already loaded. Emails were missing, the "Has attachments" tab could even stay empty, and scrolling on skipped some. The list is now loaded again for the chosen tab and order; smart folders do the same for a new sort order. Saving an attachment you had saved before from another email: When the same file came with a second email, for example a forwarded email or a reply that kept the attachment, saving it showed an error although the file had been saved, and trying again saved a second copy. Saving several attachments at once left such a file out of the count. Both now report the file as saved. Actions menu in the attachments overview: After a search, a filter, a new sort order or a change of page, the "..." menu of the listed attachments no longer opened, so opening the email, saving or copying a file only worked again after reopening the page. The menu now opens after every change. While the list reloads, the previous results stay in place, slightly dimmed, instead of briefly making way for "Loading attachments", and the page no longer shows "No attachments found" for a moment when it opens. Switching off "Pin to Top" takes effect in the email list: Pinned emails still appeared at the top of the list with the option off. They now sort like any other email, and the list updates as soon as the option or the "Pinned items order" changes. Moving emails into an account that cannot sign in: The move is now refused with a message that names the account. Before, the emails stayed in that account with a pending action that kept failing, and they appeared twice after the next sync. Discarding such a pending action puts the emails back where they were. Moving emails into Local Folders: The emails land in the chosen folder and are removed from the server once they are saved there. Before, they could end up in the first local folder and stayed on the server as well. Automation rules can now move and copy emails into local folders. Moving emails from Local Folders into a mail account is not possible yet; the app now says so instead of leaving them in a state where they could no longer be opened. Emails in Local Folders: Viewing the source, saving as .eml, showing all headers, decrypting PGP and S/MIME and checking DKIM now work for them. Importing into Local Folders: Imported .eml, mbox and Apple Mail .emlx files keep every character and their attachments. Before, text in character sets other than UTF-8 could come out garbled, and attachments could not be opened. Exporting Local Folders: The mbox export from a local folder's context menu failed, and exports left out the attachments. Full backup: Changes made shortly before a backup could be missing from it, and a backup made while the app was writing could be damaged. The backup now waits for a consistent state of the database. Undo and failed moves between accounts: Undo works for moves between two accounts, and when a move from the context menu fails, the emails show up again right away instead of after about 20 seconds. Pins in smart folders and clearer pending actions: Pinned emails are marked as pinned in smart folders, and a pending action for an account without login details says so instead of showing a technical message. Automation condition "PGP status": It now matches the emails it names. Before, only "Verification error" could ever match, and "is not" matched every email. "Encrypted" applies to every PGP-encrypted email, "Signature valid" and "Signature invalid" to emails whose signature was checked. The new choices "Passphrase required" and "Key missing" find encrypted emails that cannot be read yet, and "Verification error" is now called "Decryption failed". "Not signed" was removed: a signature is not always checked right away, so the app cannot tell an unsigned email from one whose signature it has not checked yet. A rule that still uses it no longer matches any email. Importing a PGP key from an attachment: "Import key" always said the attachment held no PGP key. It now takes the public keys from the file, binary key files (.gpg) included, and shows each one with its fingerprint, so you can compare it with the sender before you trust it. A private key in an attachment is never imported. The notice for a key found in an email during the sync did not appear before and now does, and an open email updates its signature status as soon as you import or trust the key. Translations: The confirmation after "Undo", several names appeared in English in every language. Loading more search results: Scrolling down in the results of the search bar loads more results again. Since version 0.7.0 only the first 50 results per tab appeared. Further results continue the list in the same order and load much faster in large mailboxes. Deleted contacts no longer appear in the search bar. Reactions in the search bar: When reactions show as chips on their email, a text search no longer lists them as separate results. Search bar highlights: Contacts and files in the All tab show the matching part highlighted instead of raw markup. Sent emails sorted above newer ones: An email you sent could keep its date in a wrong format if its server copy never arrived, and then sorted above all newer emails. New sent emails get the right format, and existing ones are repaired on start. Search results of the search bar: Flag color, read or unread, snooze and moving back to the inbox from the context menu did nothing for a result. They now work like in the email list, and the results follow your email list settings and show each email's folder. Searching a folder by its role: in:trash, in:sent, in:drafts, in:archive and in:spam now find these folders whatever they are called, for example a trash folder named "Papierkorb". Before, they only matched a folder of exactly that name. Bugfixes on PGP functionality Bugfixes on S/MIME functionality
